Riding Close Corten and Stainless Steel Sculpture

Riding Close Corten and Stainless Steel Sculpture

Installed in 2016, this large scale Corten and Stainless Steel sculpture graces the entrance to a new housing development at Riding Close, Hindley in Wigan.

Commissioned by Wigan and Leigh Borough Council in conjunction with Seddons Homes Plc, I initially worked alongside two local primary schools to develop the content of the artwork.

Playing on themes of local, natural and industrial history, the children's artwork is beautifully transposed in the laser cut steel.

Corten and stainless steel were chosen to provide contrast between the old and the new, and are both high quality weathering materials.

The housing development was opened by Wigan's Mayor in December 2016, with both schools and the local community in attendance. I also produced a plaque to commemorate the opening of this truly inspiring community based art project.
