Shepley Wood Park Steel Artwork

Tameside Council commissioned me to make a new welcome sign for Shepleywood Park in Audenshaw in 2005 as part of a general revamp.

I was asked specifically to reference local landmarks and historical aspects to the area, and for the work to be striking and hard wearing. Produced from brushed stainless steel, this large freestanding artwork contains images based around the textile industry (especially hat making and Calico production), canal and rail transport, and natural history.

As there were no suitable walls in the park, I commissioned a local landscaping company to install a timber sleeper structure to attach the work to, (which I had never done before and really love the effect of the steel contrasting with the wood).

Tameside Council also want me to produce another steel artwork for a nearby roundabout on a similar theme which we are hoping to get permission for later in 2017.
